I haven't used it myself, but my impression is that it has a devoted development team that has done amazing work and is helpful and quick to answer questions online.
It would be pretty cool to be using Scheme in such a fundamental way to configure the system.
My only concern would be that if we wanted to use some software that was not free by the FSF's strict definition, we might have trouble. But we wouldn't be prevented from using that software; we would just have to configure it ourselves.
