We've got a lot of mailing lists as it is, and we've got IRC.  I'm not thrilled with adding still more channels of communication, especially real-time ones.

Note that there are a number of ways to access IRC from the browser: in particular, IRCCloud has a free tier with unlimited usage, but it disconnects you every couple of hours of idleness; upgrading to always-on is US$5 a month.  Freenode also maintains a completely free browser portal that lets you connect to any number of Freenode channels.

I am thinking about setting up a discourse instance at *.scheme.org

It is open-source, can work as a mailing list, and can be self-hosted.
Also it is possible to import mailman archives.

Usually, people use one of those subdomain:

- discuss.scheme.org
- forums.scheme.org
- discourse.scheme.org

Which one do you prefer?

Personally, I prefer to ask upstream to host it in exchange for
$USD100/month with 50% discount when officially non-profit.
