I think that such limits are useful, but are implementation limits, but
not limits to the spec.
I addressed this in the other thread: it's about the API spec, not the format spec.
Allowing numeric type codes in the text format? *wince* is that a useful
feature?
Unfortunately yes, because of the private-use types, which aren't going to have meaningful names in the registry.
