Looking at its SourceForge repository, it's a somewhat healthy one man
project, the oldest commit is a month ago.  My major objection to this
particularly library is that its least restrictive license is LGPL
2.0, and I believe it's unacceptable to *require* that viral a
license.  We'd also have to take on maintenance of it if/when the sole
developer drops the project for whatever reason, and as noted in a
reply to your posting, ODBC is less than ideal.

That said, there are other UNIX friendly projects in its niche that
are worth investigating.  More about those after I winnow down what's
available in Ubuntu Bionic Beaver's repositories.
