America's really weird about getting fixated on words instead of
underlying behavior or concepts.  I'm remembering 1995 or 1996 when
California passed a law against referring to database servers as
"master" or "slave".

The place I was working, in an act of malicious compliance, started
using the terms "dominant" and "submissive" instead.  And as far as we
could tell, nobody ever noticed that those words also have
connotations.
