Because I want to view some part of a file in the editor, quit, and then have it visible on the screen or in the backscroll.  (Remember that I use a CLI editor, ex(1).

Hardcore would be green on black, the colors of an actual VT100.  I don't like black backgrounds, but I am willing to shade the color of the "paper" slightly, say to #xE0FFE0.  Especially if I have several terminal windows open on different machines, so I don't make a dumbass move on the wrong machine.
 
What is a "which" string?

The first argument to term-init, specifying which terminal is being opened.
 
That sounds like a heroic early effort at command completion. There have
been many (I think elvish did some recently).

Elvish looks cool.  I will investigate it.
