The only trouble with this is that it may end up half-localized: if the strerror return is "El fichero o directorio no existe" (as will be the case if $LANG is set to "es", that will clash with English "called".  But it can't be helped: fully correct localization is impossible in the general case.

 
If "may safely close the associated file descriptor" were changed to "may safely close its associated file descriptor", to make clear which is which.  All this is important because of who has the responsibility for each.

Now reads: "It is the responsibility of the caller to make sure the file descriptor is closed. By the same token, the port may safely close its internal file descriptor when close-port is called on the port or when it is garbage-collected."
