I just submitted a new revision of the SRFI.  The revision redefines
default values thus:

hash-table-ref and hash-table-update! get a(n optional) thunk.
There are variants, hash-table-ref/default and
hash-table-update!/default, that get a default value.

If nobody opposes this scheme, I'll ask for the finalisation of the
SRFI.
