Thanks for reporting on the latest news from SourceHut, Amirouche!
Like Vasilij, I would find a single Go executable to be nicer to manage
than Docker, assuming it works, but your point stands about rewriting
working code in another language.
I would also consider setting up GitLab at some point, since many
schemers seem to be familiar with it and already using GitLab.com.
https://salsa.debian.org/scheme-team and
https://cm-gitlab.stanford.edu/bil/s7 are also GitLab. The server-side
software seems pretty bloated (Ruby, SQL database, 4GiB RAM), but there
are not that many well established alternatives.
In the interest of keeping scheme.org neutral, we should name these
sourcehut.scheme.org and gitlab.scheme.org, allowing the alternatives to
coexist if desired.
To me, it seems reasonable to support any platforms that:
- someone is willing to maintain
- someone provides a server for
- aren't an unusual security or reputation risk for scheme.org
