I really like these linguistic notes. For the record, the "-st" ending
of the second person singular (in German and in Old English as in
"Whither Thou Goest") is of a different origin. The original ending
was "-s" (as in French) but then the personal pronoun "du"/"thou" was
doubled in form of an enclitic "-t".
