Lassi, Thanks for replying so quickly. I don’t mean to attack Scheme Review. You’ve done a lot of organizational work on it already. What mystifies me is the need for threads like these. On 2022-12-05 00:08 +0200, Lassi Kortela wrote: > I propose Scheme Review, and did the grunt work to get it started, for the > same reason as all the other projects: because nobody else stepped up to the > plate! > [snip] > Some say "show me the code" as if Scheme's main problem is lacking code. The > main problem is ideas, not code. I think you’ve misjudged the situation. There’s no lack of big ideas; there’s a lack of people, time, and energy. There is also a diversity of opinion about what is worth working on. No one has the CEO-like power to move Schemers around to fit their plans, so a new project must attract contributors on its merits alone. Schemers have to choose what to pay attention to. Very few people are paid to work on Scheme. It’s difficult to keep up with just the SRFI lists or work on your favorite implementation. And, as you know, there are hundreds of big-idea projects vying for attention, most of which never lead to anything. We’re all sick of them. So while the people who tell you to “show me the code” are oversimplifying, they do have a point: in the hacker world, productive projects without big ideas attract more contributors than projects with big ideas and few results. So find a Scheme Review process you like, report on your activity, ask for help if you need it, and let us know how to contribute. All this will help it to succeed. But, for now, I see no benefit in further lengthy discussions. I’m sorry for the short response. You raised many other points which I didn’t address.
